BALLOON BORNE Measurements

Conceived as a series of ‘mega’ campaigns under Integrated Campaigns for Aerosols gases and Radiation Budget (ICARB), the first of the ship borne experiment under ARFI was conducted during March-May 2006, covering about 4 million km2 oceanic area of Bay-of-Bengal, North Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, followed by the second one (W_ICARB) during December 2008 to January 2009 focusing on Bay-of-Bengal, with extensive concurrent airborne measurements and are the biggest campaigns ever conducted for aerosol impact assessment. The third phase of ICARB was conducted onboard the ORV Sagar Kanya (cruise no – SK345) over the south-eastern Arabian Sea and equatorial Indian Ocean during 16th January to 13th February 2018. ICARB-2018 aimed at the characterization of continental influx of aerosols over the Arabian Sea and equatorial Indian Ocean associated with the northeasterly winds from the Indian subcontinent in winter, in addition to examining the recent changes of the spatial distributions of aerosols and their climatic impact over the marine regions surrounding Indian sub-continent.
